Done some thinkin'

So 'Witch Girl' is out and I'm chugging caffeine
I'd like to know what you fellas think about Witch Girl because I am surprised at the number of sales they're doing. I'm guessing KooooNSoft has plans for releasing future patches with additional stuff since they charged a hefty USD19.00+. I never thought RoR side-scroller to be so popular.

Back on topic...

[the Labcoax progress]
Yet another late blog update, but I'm putting as much time as I possibly can into Labcoax' development. There have been a little running back and forth as I revisited some of the older codes because they were badly coded and were impeding further proper coding. Apart from that, been redoing a few other things:

[the labcoat]
I've decided that there'd be 2 states of the standard player sprites; one with labcoat on and the other without. I'm still deciding what are the bonuses for having equipped a labcoat but as of now, it gives a 20% damage reduction and takes a few hits before being destroyed, from which the heroine will take 100% damage until finding another labcoat. Lockers dispense ammo (for alternate attacks) and labcoats. Enemy grapple destroys labcoat.

[enemy grapple]
In v0.4, enemies will disengage grapple once they climax and drop the heroine before starting over, but I've gotten a few suggestions to make it last indefinitely until player decides to exit the grapple.

Q: Do you think rape grapples should do damage? Should it keep going until player stops the grapple?

[other_things]
I decided I'd complete a short 6-7 panel comic on photoshop because believe it or not, I don't practice much on photoshop if at all. Here's the short comic on Kyrieru recently breaking his stylus, featuring Kuro from Kurovadis. I got lazy half-way coloring.

On the side note ...

Tacokurt created another fanart of Labcoax a couple weeks ago, this time featuring the slime from Labcoax! You can check out his other works at tacokurt@furaffinity (NSFW).
See his previous fanart of Labcoax under the Sketches page.

Also, v0.5 to be uploaded in a day or two - shhhhh

  1. Glad to see an update, and I found that short comic to be quite funny. For the grapple question, you could mayhaps make the first time until climax do damage, then until the player escapes, no more damage.

And caffeine is good. Bring on the caffeine.

    1. Highly likely that the new mechanics would be damage-on-struggle. A forumer suggested it, it's probably the best compromise for both pro-damage and no-damage; pro-damage can input struggle inputs for self-inflicted damage. That means to break grapple, you WILL have to take damage, afterall nobody will give up the love snatch easily.

Of course, there'd be an option to toggle damage off completely in the future. No input on Witch Girl?

    2. Ehhhhh, Witch Girl has good art and animation, but I'm not up for dropping 20 dollars on a moving gallery. Plus my laptop lags it to such a low frame rate, it's rather easy to ignore. I find pixel art more enjoyable anyway, :P.

  2. Q: Do you think rape grapples should do damage?
A: I think it depends on other things. Basically, one of the gripes many people have is being rewarded for losing (i.e. unlocking specific CGs after a game-over).
With that in mind, I'm not against rape doing damage.

If I may let myself go unchecked...
I'd have different gauges for physical HP and sanity, and make (normal) attacks and sex have different impacts depending the enemy: a slime's attack would deal low HP and very low SAN damage, slime rape would deal very low HP (or even heal you) and mid SAN damage, while some huge eldritch monster would deal high HP+SAN damage for both normal attacks and sex (both of them mindfuck you, really).

Getting low on sanity could make the player able to shlick, or rape KO'd enemies, getting HP back... always liked having the choice of a whore or virgin gameplay.
And then, if your sanity hits 0, instead of a game over, you could TF into a hybrid of the monster type that dealt the most sanity loss to you, and resume playing with a different goal - instead of escaping, you now have to rape every monster type and become the alpha bitch, with the obvious world domination ending when you succeed.

Q: Should it keep going until player stops the grapple?
A: I think the best answer here is "add an option for it in-game".

    1. Control yourself! But really, alot of changes will have to be made if it is to revolve around the HP+Sanity idea. I would put a little extra something at the end though if a player manages to finish the game through the virgin path.

I think having the grapple last until player breaks it, is best for now.

    2. I quite like the above idea quite a bit but I agree. For the moment at least we should stick to the standard grapple. If we don't implement it for this game it should definitely be considered for the next one though, if there does happen to be another game from you.

  3. Personally I'd like rape not NOT cause damage, or at least be an option (like easy difficulty not hurt). Sometimes in H games like kurovadis i intentionally get knocked down and I don't want to die from it.

    1. Indeed, I think they shouldn't do damage.

    2. I will put an option for no-damage in the future. It's probably the best compromise.

  4. The grapples should keep going until you free yourself from them, that way, it feels more hectic. :)

  5. I'm okay with either dropping or continuing until you break out as long as they climax at some point. I dont like the ones where they just hump until you die and then climax (or not climax at all)

  6. I don't know about Witch Girl, but I never exactly played Shinobi Girl for it's stellar gameplay. The enemy interactions were diverse and interesting, and the art was good. And the watch gallery was easy to unlock.

Games like Kurovidas and Lab - Still Alive are much more interesting to me. Good art and great game play. Games like this i'll come back to because it was damn fun, as well visually pleasing. Games like Witch Girl get quickly forgotten for me.

    1. Great to hear! I suppose the point that really sold SG and WG is the appealing art and easily accessible gallery. It's really what H-game players only ask for.

Now, these may just be words, but along with the adult content within Labcoax, I'm also trying to make a game that could evoke other emotions. I'm throwing all I can think of into this game. I hope it comes out a good game, if it ever gets finished.

    2. I suppose it boils down to there simply being two schools of thought for H-games: H-games as games first, and H-games as H first. I follow the first school of thought myself. And it sounds like Sharka shares my opinion here. A game that's got good art, very appealing H, but has poor, unintuitive, or cookie-cutter gameplay isn't going to get much replay value. They're good for looking at the H content, but that's about it.

On the other hand, a game that focuses first on being a fun experience is, if nothing else, at least a *good game*. H or not, I love a good Metroidvania-style platformer. The H is just the icing on the cake in that regard. One Kurovadis is worth 100 KooooN Soft games, in my eyes. (Fun fact: Kurovadis was my first H-game... I consider it the gold standard to which I hold up other H-games.)

    3. Eeehh, I thought the game and H-content of shinobi girl were subpar at best. They charge a lot for a poor flash game, most people do those for free

  7. I like the rape/grapple events to have some kind of significance. It feels silly when you're just leaving your character in the downed state just to see what happens. I like the urgency, the actual desire to escape. That said, it's nice to have access to an animation viewer so i can enjoy the scenes without the penalty, as well.

    1. That's a really good idea. You could have the rape do damage ingame, but have a no-damage gallery for enemies you've encountered, not necessarily been raped by, sorta like what kyrie did with eroico.

  8. I prefer not to have the heroine damaged while rape.
But if there is damage its also fine with me when you can use a cheat mode instead (maybe as a reward for beating the game or you unlock cheats by collecting stuff in the world or beat challenges,...)

and ouh man, cute comic-page ^.^

    1. I will have an option to toggle it off soon.

My comic-drawing experience isn't much at all, glad you liked the comic :D

    2. Now all we need is a kurovardis x labcoax game and we'd be set oh and maybe a new demo >:-}

  9. Witches are cute, but I despise such games for their general laziness. Leave cheap flash games as flash games - not worth charging a fee for, really. Personally, I blame a lack of quality H games - most of them are excuse games for the porn. We need more good games that have porn as H gamed, such as Kurovadis.

    1. Sales numbers are proving otherwise though. I think WG does well in appealing to the general crowd of H-game consumers; good art, decent gameplay, good voice-overs & gallery. Still ... it's an expensive one.

    2. Which basically means that we need more people making decent H-games to show that there's an actually fun alternative to those boring jungle girl clones. Like was mentioned above, Kurovadis and Lab -Still Alive- are far better games, and do the H-game scene a lot of justice. We need many more like those, which is why I'm eager to see more of Lab Coax.

One of the biggest reason I bought With Girl was the pregnancy / birth scenes. This scene happens if she orgasms while full of cum (which isn't nearly as often as I want!). I would be interested in buying your game if it had a pregnancy / birth scene (and the option to turn that on or off).
